The author creates a feeling of peace and tranquillity in the first half of the story to show Mead’s enjoyment of walking and how he is rejecting technology. Bradbury explores the theme of how technology limits freedom through his use of word choice, mood, imagery and personification. The story used is to warn the reader of the dangers of our reliance on technology showing us what may lie ahead if mankind relinquishes its humanity progress.

He is, however taken away to a mental institution as the robotic police car does not recognize the basic human behaviour of walking as everyone else in the stories society watches TV in the evenings. The police car questions him on what he is doing even though Mead has done nothing wrong. One evening, Mead is out for his usual walk, but is stopped by a police car. Leonard Mead, the protagonist in a television centred world in A.D 2052, is different from everyone else in the stories society as instead of relying on technology to entertain him, Mead finds his entertainment walking. “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction story set in a future dystopia.
